Ward Medication Management | Ethics Statement – 2014
Ward Medication Management (Ward MM) is a progressive, professional and ethical organisation that provides high quality, leading edge pharmacy services in the Aged Care industry, including medication review and other services designed to optimise quality use of medicines for older people and support the professional staff that care for them. Ward MM has established a privacy statement that can be viewed at www.wardmm.com.au The privacy statement is supplemented by this ethics statement: the management of Ward MM and all employees apply the values of these documents to guide professional conduct and all aspects of dealings with the public, and with other health professionals.
The key principle of the Ward MM ethics statement is that the interests of the facility resident/consumer (the clients of Ward MM) should always be regarded as central in governing conduct and professional practice. Important secondary considerations are the need to provide high quality, responsive support and assistance for those people and organisations that serve the needs of the clients – these may include but are not limited medical and nursing staff that provide care for the clients. Ward MM will also facilitate the safe and effective care of clients through indirect services that assist facilities and staff in areas such as accreditation support, education and research designed to assist in developing good practice and minimising medication-related harm and medication errors/incidents.
The pharmacists who work for Ward MM take personal responsibility for the provision of the pharmaceutical services being provided. Ward MM will not outsource work or procure services from staff that are not appropriately qualified and credentialed to undertake the work in a way that satisfies all legal and professional practice obligations.
All services provided by Ward MM will be governed by the principles of courtesy, respect and confidentiality. Ward MM staff will not sell or divulge information derived from clients for the purposes of generating personal gain or profit, or for gain/profit for Ward MM.
All professional staff of Ward MM will commit to maintaining professional competence, and endeavour at all times to provide pharmacy service of the very highest standards in keeping with contemporary professional trends, relevant laws, professional standards, guidelines and codes of practice.
Ward MM staff will at all times act with honesty and integrity and avoid conflict of interest or situations that may compromise professional relationships or influence the objectivity of judgments. They must not engage in behaviour or activity likely to bring the profession of pharmacy into disrepute or undermine public confidence.
In addition to providing services in the interests of individual clients, Ward MM staff and management will contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through teaching, research and publication. When involved in research, Ward MM staff will abide requirements of duly constituted institutional ethics committees, and relevant national and international declarations.
